c.1810 Coalport scale blue and floral inkwell
Description
A beautifully painted and gilded, very high quality, porcelain inkwell, of the period 1800-20. Shaped reserves containing beautifully painted floral sprays, somewhat in the style of Thomas Baxter. Scale blue ground. Central well and cover, flanked by three pen rests.
Similar porcelain pieces, utilising this beautifully executed scale blue decoration, are illustrated in plates 64,65, 67 and 68 of Michael Messenger's "Coalport 1795-26".
Condition
In very good antique condition. Very minor enamel wear and ink staining, but no apparent defects, damage or restoration. Wear commensurate with age and use.
