Boxed gents 9ct gold Smiths Astral for Vickers
A boxed gents 9 carat gold Smiths Astral wrist watch, made in England, for Vickers.
The watch has a hand-winding movement, calibre 60464E which was the slimline 17-jewel movement introduced in 1965. The movement is working nicely.
The watch itself measures 33.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London 1967 with a maker’s mark SCW for Smiths Clocks & Watches. The back of the watch has a long service presentation for 40 years’ service from Vickers. It is a bit of a mystery why the presentation was dated 1963 when the watch was actually made in 1967… this suggests that the watches were awarded when the employee left the company, rather than when they had completed their milestone service. Both the case and the lens are in lovely condition.
The signed dial is in lovely condition too, with original hands including the centre seconds hand with red pointer end.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in its original presentation box from Vickers.
