Berber Benares Brass Tray Lamp Table Bamboo
Quality Berber Brass Table - Bamboo Folding Base - c1880
This is a quality example of the classic brass tray table is presented in very good antique order.
The table has superb detailing and many quality touches such as the hoof feet with brass tips, the inset design of the tray, and the pressed brass finish caps over the cut stems at the top.
The tray top is a very nicely executed artisan example displaying an middle-eastern property with pleasing perspective. Of note is the year 1310 clearly featured so the piece references a time in history. There were several events of note in that year according to Wikipedia, alas it is a guess as to which the creator could have been referring when the tray was crafted in the late 19th century
January–December
January – Forces of the Kingdom of Castile retreat from the Siege of Algeciras after enduring severe losses and securing a peace treaty.
March – Muhammed III, former Sultan of the Emirate of Granada is blinded and found dead in a pool after an attempted coup to retake his throne from his brother Nasr.
May 11 – In France, 54 members of the Knights Templar are burned at the stake for heresy.
[edit]Date unknown
Abu al-Fida becomes governor of Hama.
The first purpose-built accommodation for students (the Mob Quad) is completed in Merton College, Oxford, England.
Basarab I, after the battle against the Tatars, is named "big prince" of Wallachia by the feudal lords of the region. The country remains under Hungarian domination until the Battle of Posada on 12 October, 1330.
This sits atop the six leg folding base in bamboo.
The table measures 58cm (22.8") across and is suitable for either permanent location as a coffee, lamp or display table, or for occasional use due to the benefit of the folding leg stand.
Overall this piece of antique furniture is in very good condition and will make a great addition to any setting. Rare to see one of this standard.
