Art Nouveau Silver Plated Fish Servers, c.1910-20
Here we have a top quality Art Nouveau Silver Plated set of Fish Servers in their original case. Both the fish slice and the fork are elegantly decorated on the top side and under side of the stem with a distinctive Art Nouveau flower and drop design.
The set is made in London by Roberts & Dore and dates to between 1912 and around 1920. Formed in Sheffield in 1908 by Tom Roberts and James Dore, they transferred their business to London's prestigious Hatton Garden district in 1912, where they remained in business until the early 1970s. From 1920 onwards they began using the trademark RAND Plate for their silver plate items and this set predates that brand name. The dating also ties in with the Art Nouveau style of the set.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents, no plate loss and just the minimal surface wear that has to be expected after 100 years of good service. The case has a few small scuff marks on the outside but the hinge and clasp are in good working order and the inside is clean. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The fish slice is 30.8cm / 12.1ins long and the serving fork is 22.7cm / 8.ins long. The two together, uncased, weigh in at 203.3g / 7.2ozs.
The underside of the stem on the fork is marked with the R & D stamp for Roberts & Dore, the letter L showing that it was produced in London (ie after 1912) and the EP stamp for Electroplate.
