Art Deco Lidded Tureen, Myott, Son & Co, c.1930s
This is a quintessentially Art Deco lidded tureen or serving dish from the 1920s/30s. The tureen is made by Myott, Son & Co in Stoke. It is hand painted with a sunburst and geometric pattern in green, black and silver lustre on a cream coloured background.
Myott, Son & Co were founded in the Staffordshire Potteries in 1898. After modest early success they expanded in 1925 to a new factory with greater capacity and really hit their stride with a range of new and exciting Art Deco designs on vases, jugs and tableware and this piece dates from this period. Sadly a fire in 1949 destroyed their factory and all their records so putting names to patterns and artists is virtually impossible as they didn't include this information on the items themselves.
The tureen is in good condition with no chips or cracks and just some crazing in the glaze on the lid. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bowl of the tureen is 22cm / 8.5" in diameter, it is 28.3cm / 11.1" across from handle to handle and stands 13cm / 5" high to the top of the finial.
The marks on the underside show the gold Myott, Son & Co, England beneath a crown stamp, then hand painted, then the pattern number MH8252 and finally a second stamp in red for MADE IN ENGLAND which was compulsory after 1921 if a company wanted to export items outside of Britain.
We have other pieces in this pattern available and we will combine items for shipping to reduce costs if you wish to purchase multiple items.
Shipping in the UK is £7 by Hermes Tracked & Signed Courier.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
