Antique Welsh Love Spoon c1860 Lovespoon
A superb Welsh Love spoon of generous size and stunning design c1860. The stem of which takes the form of a long case clock (there are a couple of spoons with antique clock handles known), instead of representing a clock fully the profile is significant in suggesting being together for all time. The body of the handle being made up of two cages, these not intending to enclose balls. Cages intentionally without balls are common and as well as demonstrating the carvers skill are a symbol of strength.
A nicely shaped bowl finishes this spoon which is well carved throughout and in lovely condition with superb colour and great presence.
It measures 28cm in length
