Antique Welsh Cawl Lovespoon c1890 Love Spoon
A stunning Antique Welsh Cawl Spoon of beautiful traditional form, Cardiganshire late 19thC. Carved from a single piece of sycamore. Love spoons are found in a huge variety of designs and are often based on everyday utilitarian objects such as Dolphin Spoons, Cawl Spoons, Ladles and scoops. The use of these traditional and familiar forms strengthen the symbolism of the Welsh love spoon making these design types amongst the most important and desirable.
This Welsh Love Spoon is based on a traditional West Wales Cawl spoon of a type most often found in South West Wales in the dairy farming counties of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
Displaying several desirable features including a carved flower to the handle symbolising an ever growing love and patina and colour as good as can be found. A very rare and special piece indeed.
