Antique Walnut Music or Document Filing Cabinet.
This is a very good quality walnut sheet music or document filing cabinet.
It is an early example of this tambour fronted design, and would date to the late Victorian or Edwardian period.
The model was later widely reproduced throughout the first half of the 20th century and most frequently factory made in veneered oak with plywood lining and interior.
The tambour front lowers to reveal a solid oak interior with 6 of the original oak shelves. These are removable and have shaped notches to the fronts, which allows finger room to remove paper work.
The top has a moulded edge and rounded corners on all 4 sides, (not with a flat rear edge), and the rear of the cabinet is panelled and polished also, so it was designed to allow for the option of positioning it free standing in a room, not just against a wall, but perhaps next to a desk for example
The catch to the cabinet front works very well and the tambour door runs smoothly, rolling up into the grooved plinth space below when open (see photo).
(To open place a finger of the left hand under the brass lip on the door and turn the key with the right hand. This releases the catch and the door lowers into a roll in the base. To close drag the door up and it clicks firmly into place).
Capacity:
With the six shelves in place there is space at the bottom for 5 standard lever arch files.
Alternatively, by removing the lowest shelf, Box files can be accommodated.
Very good condition throughout.

48 cm wide, 40.5 cm deep, 90.5 cm tall
Internally the shelves are 39cm wide by 28 cm deep
