Antique Surveyor's Level, English, Theodolite
This is an antique surveyor's level. An English, brass theodolite desk ornament by William Stanley with mahogany carry box, dating to the early 20th century, circa 1910.
A fine scientific instrument from a renowned designer
Displays a desirable aged patina
Enamelled primary tube in good original order
Mahogany carry box features original instruction label and a later service label dated to 1935
Example of William F Stanley's patent no. 10,447 'Improvement In Surveyor's Levels, May 1901'
Primary tube engraved with the serial number 93326
Further marked with the address 'Stanley, Great Turnstile, Holborn, London'
Triform mounting platform with adjustment levers and the inscription 'Stanley's Patent'
Longitudinal and transverse spirit levels feature above the barrel
Front element protected by a swivelling, brass dust cover
Prismatic surveying compass situated beneath primary tube
Choice of two eye-pieces revealing a fine metal reticule when removed
