Antique Silver Plate Coffee Pot or Hot Water Jug
Here we have a good quality Antique Silver Plated Coffee Pot or Hot Water Jug from the late 19th or early 20th century. The jug is circular with line decoration around the lower and upper parts of the body and an ebonised handle and finial. Despite its age it has a very contemporary look and is equally suitable for use as either a coffee pot or a hot water jug.
The jug is made in Sheffield by Boardman, Glossop & Co and dates to between around 1880 and 1920. Initially founded by Charles Boardman as silversmiths in 1844, by 1850 they had almost entirely switched to electroplating. A.O. Glossop joined the firm as partner around 1860 and they became Boardman, Glossop & Co in 1887. They manufactured in Sheffield and had a showroom in London's Holborn district. The business was finally bought out in 1924 by Frank Cobb & Co.
Condition is very good, with just one very shallow ding in the body, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 100 or more years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The jug is 14.2cm / 5.6ins from lip to handle, 9cm / 3.5ins in diameter across the base and stands 16.6cm / 6.5ins high. It weighs 391g / 13.8oz.
The underside of the base is marked with B & G and GS for Boardman & Glossop of Sheffield and EP for silver plate.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
