This is an antique rector's writing slope. An English, flame mahogany correspondence case, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1800.
Exceptional craftsmanship throughout, with a host of features
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Select flame stocks present superb grain interest and rich russet hues
Striking tooled and embossed saffron yellow leather in lightly aged order
Quality case crafted for the dual purpose of writing and as a lectern for delivering sermons
Case dressed with an inset brass lock escutcheon — in working order, key present
Opening to reveal the writing skiver across two opening sections with storage to the trailing edge
Charming glass and brass ink well sits neatly within a compartment
Key access to upper skiver hosting a removable stationery tray dressed with crimson crushed velvet covers
Recessed brass support arm raises to three positions to support the outer reading rest
Lid features a removable reading rest set within brass-line sockets
Side drawer held securely with a brass-topped pin, accessed from the interior
