Superb walnut Edwardian writing slope in excellent condition complete with working key. This wonderful writing slope is decorated with brass banding, name plate and escutcheon with a working bramah lock and key. The name plate in the centre of the lid reads ''Presented to Mr John Brown by the employees of Inverkeithing Paper Mill 1911'' This attractive box is covered in amazing walnut veneers with superb graining. Inside there is a tooled leather writing surface, compartments for ink wells, pen tray and lidded nib box. Additional storage can be found under both ends of the writing surface. Like so many of the boxes of this era there are hidden drawers for concealing private documents. Three concealed under the top section of the writing slope accessed through the pen tray and one to the side that is opened when the brass pin is pulled. This is a stunning, very functional box of fabulous quality that is not only useful but highly decorative that will add a little piece of history to any desk. This would make a perfect gift.
