Antique Oertling Balance Scales of London c.1920
In General
A wonderful and very interesting set of antique Oertling Analytical Balance Scales of London set in a high quality Mahogany and glass case by Thomson, Skinner & Hamilton of Glasgow model number 48, c.1920.
The case has clear glass sides and a glass top for viewing. There is a sliding door to the front with front operating sash weights. There are two side doors with small brass twist handles.
Alloy scales are suspended from a brass beam. The brass bracket above the beam features the makers mark: Oertling of London, engraved with the serial number: 34627. The balance comprises a vertical pillar with a rocking beam as mentioned. At the ends of the beam are hooks where scales are hung. There is one weight in the case. The scales appear to be complete although they have not been tested and therefore do not know if they are in working order.
The scales are sitting on a very weighty ebonised glass ceramic base and standing on three brass feet, two being adjustable.
Many more photographs are available if required.
