Antique Mahogany Oval Extending Dining Table
A handsome antique mahogany wind out dining table with a lovely rich colour and well figured top. The table is raised on elegant turned and reeded legs with the original brass and ceramic castors, giving it a smart and balanced look from every angle.
The top closes to a neat round form and extends with two leaves to create a generous oval table, making it a very practical piece for both everyday use and larger gatherings. This type of table would originally have been used in the dining room of a well appointed home, allowing the family to keep a compact table in daily use and then enlarge it when entertaining guests.
It is an attractive and useful size, with the flexibility to be used with no leaves, one leaf, or fully extended. The wind out action is a desirable feature and a classic sign of a good quality 19th century dining table. The warm mahogany timbers and crisp reeded legs give it a refined look that works beautifully in both traditional and modern interiors.
