Antique Lustreware Pottery Jug & Bowl by Scott
This antique lustreware jug and bowl dates from the 1850s/1860s. Please note that both pieces have had some quite significant restoration at some point. The bowl is impressed to the underneath 'Scott' and we believe it to have been made by Scott of Southwick Pottery in Sunderland. The jug is not stamped, but the two items appear to have always been together. The jug and bowl both make reference to the Crimean War and the sailor's farewell (on the jug) and return (on the bowl). The bowl also features a view of the cast iron bridge over the River Wear built by R. Burdon and opened in 1796. In the centre of the bowl is a scene entitled 'February'.

Condition Please note that both pieces have been restored at some point in the past, and the restoration areas are slightly discoloured. Both pieces have some crazing, various hairline cracks and wear to the paintwork as might be expected. There are some flaws both in the pottery and in the paintwork. The jug looks to have been restored around the spout and the paintwork has been touched up in places. It has an old restored chip to the base. The bowl has been restored to one area of the lip and the paintwork touched up and is quite scratched in the centre where the jug has sat over the years.
