This Antique Elm chest was made circa 1820 in a country workshop using the timber from fallen trees on a large estate.
The country cabinetmaker would use materials that were free to hand and on this occasion rather than oak he used Elm.
Quite often the cabinetmakers would see the up to the current fashion chest of drawers in the grand house that was made of mahogany and then copy that design tobe used in one of the cottages in the estate.
This stands on bracket feet and is fitted 2 short and 3 long graduated drawers.
It is a lovely colour with interested grain and good patina, it is bound to look great in many situations around the modern home, providing plenty of good storage.
