Antique Gentlemans Compactum Wardrobe.
This is an antique gentleman's wardrobe. An English, walnut compactum cupboard by Waring & Gillow, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
Superior proportion and appearance
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Select walnut shows fine grain interest and deep caramel hues
Quality bevelled mirror plates to doors, with desirable light foxing
Central cabinet over four drawers with wardrobe doors to either side
Upper cabinet doors decorated with foliate carved field panels
Sliding drawers to the interior for smaller garments or shoes
Each door dressed with brass lock escutcheons displaying figural masques — keys absent
Drawers open smoothly by way of brass drop handles over ornate masque backplates
Dressed wardrobe interiors present a suite of brass hanging hooks
Internal drawer with half dome cup handles to the left hand wardrobe
The whole standing upon a continuous stout plinth foot
