This is a Large Early 17th Century Antique Oak coffer. It is raised upon short legs with a jointed and pegged construction. Across the front it has four carved linen fold panels with moulded and chamfered detail surrounding each panel. The lid is hinged with steel ring eyes with a candle box section to the left hand side. It has good patination and a lovely piece.

When this piece was made the South Sea Bubble had not yet collapsed, Bonnie Prince Charlie had not landed in Scotland, Slavery was legal and we had not lost the American Colonies.
