This is an antique dining hall gong. An English, bronze over cast iron ceremonial alarm, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.

Substantial and striking gong, with distinctive appearance
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Patinated bronze gong presents mottled golden tones
Cast iron frame presents deep chestnut brown hues

Set within a circular frame, the gong supported upon a leather strap
Of deep timbre, the gong strikes with a confident tone
Stout cork striking mallet in good original order
Dashing tripartite base profusely decorated in ornate scrolled leaf motif
