Antique Coffer, French Walnut c.1800
This is an antique coffer, French, walnut, dating to c.1800.
Substantial and imposing, this coffer is vigourously carved on three sides beneath a hinged plank lid displaying wonderful colour and patina.
Four flat bun feet raise the large moulded plinth beneath the lower frieze detail. The triple panel front and double panel ends are elaborately carved in geometric form around central cartouche with the stiles displaying vertical interlocking circular detail complimenting and beautifully framing the panels. An upper carved frieze brings balance to the proportion.
To either end, the original large, forged iron handles offer form and function. The historic worm has long since gone but has been professionally re-treated for good measure.
A stunning chest, honest and full of charm and character and an imposing piece. Delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
