Antique Aesthetic Movement Jug by John Meir antique victorian ceramic %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a lovely Antique Victorian Aesthetic Movement Large jug or Vase made by John Meir & Son.  The Aesthetic Movement was inspired by the opening of the Japanese Borders which was negotiated by the American Admiral in the early 1860s with the Aesthetic Movement coming to full prominence by 1875.  It believed beauty for its own sake was perfection and all other constraints were ignored.  John Meir were in production at Green gates pottery in Tunstall between 1837 and 1897.  It is an earthenware jug so we would advise it is for display rather than use.  There is a glaze imperfection from production on the bulbous section under the lip of the jug which doesn't detract.
