Tessa Walsh (1918 - 2012)
Modernist artist exhibited 1940-90. Exhibited at Royal Academy London, exhibited at Le Salon de Nations, Paris amongst others. Signs works with initials T.W.
Ethetia Walsh, or Tess as she liked to be called, lived an unconventional life, devoted almost entirely to creative endeavour. She spent many years working as a landscape gardener in the summer months, earning enough to spend the remainder of the year in Devon and Cornwall, where she devoted her time to painting and writing poetry and prose.
Despite her assured and fluid style she had no formal art training, and she was also a self-taught carpenter and picture-frame maker. In 1976 Walsh moved to Siddington in Gloucestershire where she continued painting and framing in her studio-workroom. She exhibited at Le Salon de Nations, Paris, in 1984. Now her works command high prices due to her following and the Modernist interpretations of her style.
The title of this work of art is called "Murder on the nursery floor" c1950s
The painting depicts broken nursery toys scattered around a play room floor. Study the picture and you will see a broken rocking horse, broken dolls body, a ewer pouring water and rainbow along with other items. The artist has used a dark medium of oils and when the painting is set under light it brings this picture back to life for you to interpretation. This is one of her largest works of art I have seen to date and can only increase in value as more of her works are snapped up.
The images are the best I can achieve due to the bounce back from the flash. This may also effect the colours.
