Description: Ancient oil painting on canvas depicting the mystical marriage of Saint Catherine.
The work is rich in iconographic inventions and is in tune with full-bodied and bright colors, with highly precious effects. The mystical marriage of Saint Catherine, in which the Child, held by Mary in a dazzling red dress with blue lapels, is inserting the wedding ring.
Catherine's status as the bride of Jesus is evidenced by the sumptuous dress, with enormous puffed sleeves, and by the magnificence of the jewels worn, including a complex hairstyle, a string of pearls with a ruby pendant and drop pearl earrings.
An angel with a penetrating frontal portrait, with an expressive use of the hands, assists the scene.
The style is the artist's happiest, with large planes of intense color, complex spatial relationships, abundant draperies and serene atmospheres, accompanied by a refined taste for detail.
