Ann McTavish 1950 - 2005 one of the world's most renowned embroiderers, produced work on an epic scale.
Brought up in Accrington, she graduated from Liverpool School of Art. After that, she had private lessons with the revered embroiderer Florence Wheaton. She set out to fulfil an ambition to create "heirlooms of the future".
Ann wanted her work to give pleasure now and to have a quality which would transcend time. This could be seen in the beauty of the stitch and the texture, seen in her work, which was commissioned worldwide. a magnificent piece, entitled 'Redemption', was the result of a collaboration between Arthur Dooley and Ann McTavish and presented to Liverpool Cathedral in 1993
