A Very Fine 18th Century French Console Dessert
A very fine French 18th Century Louis XVI mahogany console dessert with carrara marble insert. Having concave sides this shaped console dessert dating to circa 1790 has been constructed of finely grained mahogany which has over the years mellowed to a beautiful colour. With a carrara marble shaped insert top having an ormolu shaped and fretted gallery over a central drawer with brass inset moulding, square cut handles and ormolu cast escutcheon.
The shaped concave sides again having a brass inset moulding with the top being supported by turned and fluted columns which are united by a lower mahogany tier terminating on toupee feet.
In very good condition having been lightly restored using traditional waxing methods this period console dessert has a beautiful colour with a splendid shape and proportions.
This antique console will work in both traditional and contemporary settings.
