A Telescopic Extending Dining Table
A particularly large William IV telescopic, extending dining table in solid Honduras Mahogany. Probably made by Holland & Sons, the wide moulded rectangular top is in two sections when closed which is extendable using the concealed wide gauge patent spiral screw mechanism to accept up to two additonal large leaf insertions which are included. The massive tapering baluster legs carved with cabochon and acanthus designs, terminating with large brass caps and castors. Image before restoration & revival of polish.
English, mid 19th century.
NOTE : The table originally had two more ie a total of 6 leaves giving it a fully extended length of 168" / 14ft ....to seat upwards of 16...allowing 18" + per person. We could provide these two extra leaves in matching mahogany.
HOLLAND & SONS : Starting in the early 19th century and continuing until 1942 this family firm made prestigious antique furniture and fittings for many of the government buildings and clubs built in 19th-century London, including the Athenaeum, the Reform Club, the British Museum and the Royal Academy.
