A decorative stool attributed to A.M.E. Fournier
A decorative stool attributed to A.M.E. Fournier This wonderful French Napoleon III knotted rope twist stool or tabouret, in French, retains its original finish and gilded highlights. 410mm high, 590mm wide and 510mm deep. French. Circa 1870.
A.M.E Fournier was established by 1850 in Paris at 109 boulevard Beaumarchais, and later at boulevard des Capucines.
As well as exceptional carved furniture, Fournier was famed for his upholstered work, shown at many of the great exhibitions of the period, including the 1867 Exposition Universelle. His most famous creation was a wonderfully naturalistic giltwood rope twist stool, which was as highly sought after in his own period as it is today. W J Gravener Antiques is a family owned business, started in 1963 by William who was joined by son, Mark in 1981 and continues today with the same ethos of dealing in fine quality English and Continental furniture, mirrors and decorative objects, from the 18th & 19th centuries. Now under the stewardship of Mark and his wife, Louise, we take pride in maintaining the high standards which William set more than 50 years ago.
W.J.Gravener Antiques are proud members of LAPADA, The London and Provincial Antique Dealers Association.
We offer an approachable and friendly service and we are always happy to hear from clients, both new and established.
