Bought as a set of four it is only when, as a restorer, getting up close and personal it becomes obvious that two may have been the original purchase. Then another two purchased a couple of years later, perhaps when they could be afforded, but from the same workshop. All is too close, it may be that they were made by a different craftsman but in the same establishment. The heart cut in the splats is a lovely touch in an otherwise plain Chippendale inspired chair. They date from around 1790 and are sound in every way and fit for purpose.
