19thc Parian figure 'Go to Sleep'
A very decorative mid 19thc Parian figure called 'Go to Sleep' depicting a young girl with her dog, trying to send her dog to sleep.
This figure is in excellent condition with no visible damage other than a small mark to the base that I believe is a firing mark rather than a chip.
This figure was sculptored by 'J. Durham' dated 1862 and also stamped with the makers mark of 'J Durham'.
The original marble sculpture, commissioned by F Bennoch, was originally displayed at the Royal Academy aswell as the International Exhibition in London in 1862. The reduced model in porcelain was given by the Art Union of London as prizes in 1863, 1864 and 1865. Reference from 'Parian Copeland's Statuary Porcelain' by Robert Copeland page 105 GP30.
