A 19th century oil on canvas depicting a haggard writer and/or musician in a dishevelled interior scene. The Windsor & Newton canvas stamp dates the work to circa. 1885-1905.

The work is very well executed with an unusually busy interior scene and a wonderful central character depicted with great verve. The work is housed in a gilt foliate frame.

There are a few small areas of paint loss (please see photographs). The frame remains in a very good condition.
