19th Century Linen Sampler Sampler Blackburn
Silk on linen sampler, mid 19th century, in good overall condition. No discernible holes or wear, but with some darkening, particularly round the edges. This does not detract and is commensurate with its age. Very finely worked by Eliz Sharples, Blackburn school, Aged 11 years, Anno Domini 1859 Pictures of sheperdess with sheep, flower urns, fruit baskets and birds. The verse reads Remember God in all devious ways, and let your gentle voice still speak his praise, from affectation and from pride be free, and let your constant guide be modesty.Remounted in its original birds eye maple frame by Green & Stone of Chelsea. Overall size 19" high by 20 1/2" wide,(includes frame)
