19th Century Italian Gilt Console Table
An Early 19th Century Italian Parcel Gilt Side Table of Small Size and Fine Proportions.
This table is decorated throughout in its original white/cream and gilt scheme. Originally intended to be a pier table, this piece would have stood between the large pier windows in an important home underneath the matching mirror.
The frieze has applied carvings of floral subjects and paterae and the turned legs have applied floral capitals and fluting. All of this carving is executed in wood and not composition. It retains its original marble top which, though predominantly white, picks up the gilt theme of the painted sections with its yellow/brown figuring.
