This is a beautiful Chinese watercolour painting on pith from the 19th century. The painting is a study of insects in vibrant gouache colours and includes butterflies and other winged insects and also a little crab type creature. They are very finely executed and have great charm. The painting is mounted and set within a very attractive gilded bamboo style frame which sets it off very nicely. It is in great condition save for a small mark to the pith as photographed. The painting itself measures 22.5 cms by 15.5 cms but the frame is 40 cms by 32 cms. We currently have another Chinese watercolour of butterflies listed in the same frame. Please get in touch if you are interested in purchasing both.
