19th Century Carved Bear, Fair Ground Galloper
19th Century Carved Bear, Fair Ground Galloper
This charming if somewhat fearsome beast is a 19th Century Carved Wooden Bear he originates from the Black Forrest and has has detailed carving with Folk art painted decoration
Our Bear comes from a country Merry go Round or Carousel, he is made made in solid wood, he has glass painted eyes and a broad saddle he probably sat 2 children on his back at once, there is mask carving on the bears back just behind the saddle
This large and handsome piece would be excellent as a stand alone or for any one with the talent it could be converted into a rocking bear for a lucky child
The Bear is in good condition for his age and has lots of life left in him. He is 29” high to his shoulder, 53” long tail to nose and 15” across
