This stunning and rare 19th-century English Chinese Chippendale pagoda desk or writing table is a remarkable example of craftsmanship. The highly stylized, hand-carved mahogany table features a rectangular top with a moulded edge, showcasing a beautifully patinated black tooled leather inset.
Beneath the top, the desk includes a set of three carved mahogany-lined drawers, each retaining its original brass fret handles, working locks, and a functioning key. Above the writing platform, two small drawers and a backboard are adorned with lacquered panels, hand-decorated with intricate flowers and birds, all crowned by a pagoda gabled roof, finished with exquisite classic Chippendale fretwork.
This elegant table is supported by four slender, stylized square column legs that terminate in ball and claw feet. Made in England circa 1880, this writing table boasts a rich mahogany brown colour and is in superb original condition. As an outstanding decorative piece, this beautiful table is notable for its intricate carving, the wonderful combination of materials, and the sophistication and style of its design.
