1930s Mid-size Silver Wrist Watch
1930s mid-size silver wrist watch.
The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely.
The watch measures 29mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs so it is classed as a mid-sized watch by today’s standards. Unusually, the case is case is silver and is stamped ‘sterling’ to the inside of the case back. It is aso stamped with the ‘id’ mark which was registered in 1936 by ID Watch Case Co. Inc. of New York, the company traded from 1930 until 1942.
These cases were also bought in by Rolex for watches worn by Canadian servicemen, particularly fighter pilots. It was more cost effective to have the cases made in North American than bring them in from Europe as they then became subject to import tax.
This particular case is in good condition with just marking to the back where an earlier thread through strap has been fitted.
The lens is in lovely condition.
The dial is in its original finish with blued steel hands.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
