Good sized mid 18th.c. oak mule chest c.1780. Flat (rather than panelled) three plank lid with cleated ends and moulded edges. Lifts to reveal lots of useful storage inside with a separate section to one side the lid of which forms a stay for the top of the chest when open. Four raised and fielded panels across the front with moulded edges to the surrounding rails and mullions. Over two useful drawers in the base with original brass handles and escutcheons. Applied base moulding and bracket feet across the front. Flat panelled oak sides and rear, oak floorboards and drawer linings. Note the re-used timbers to the top rails with beautiful carving to the inner face. Some typical old wear to the top with later bracing and replacement hinges. Generally excellent condition and good colour. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
