Oooh, do we like the colour in this 18th century mule chest? Well, yes we do. A lot. This large mule chest, dating to the end of the 18th century, has two lower drawers and seven panels above. The colour is very good and just the colour we like in country oak. In fact we had an “Oooo!” moment when we first saw it. It really is rather nice. There are two inventory marks - initials “I.R” carved to the bottom right drawer. The hinges are the original wooden hinges, meaning that the top can be lifted free. There has been an old repair to the top which has been recoloured slightly. The handles are not original but have significant age and are right for the period. There has been a repair to the carcass of the left hand drawer. The base is original.
