18th Century Monks Bench
18th century monks bench. There are carvings to each back panel and to the sides. The bench was rescued from the basement of Chantry house, Tanfield, North Yorkshire (used by the monks of Jerveaux Abbey after the dissolution of the monasteries). The bench was probably put together by them in the 18th century from earlier pieces of wall panel and ships timber. This is an excellent and very unique piece of antique furniture. AS385
