18th century English Staffordshire pottery figures
A rare pair of late 18th century English Staffordshire figure groups of two young men about to have a scuffle.
This rare pair of early English Staffordshire groups each portray a young man about to enter a scuffle. Both he and his opponent are being held back by two young women who are trying to stop the fight from taking place. One is entitled Scuffle the other Contest. Both figures are very well modelled and hand painted. They are a scarce subject and came from an extensive private collection. Scuffle has had some old very high quality minor restoration and still shows some minor flaking to the back. Bearing in mind the rarity and good subject matter, I would like to feel this is just a part of their long history and should be a pleasure to own and enjoy.
Height 16.5cm x width 11cm x depth 8cm
