1880 Waechtersbach Flow Blue German Ribbon Plates
#AD192 Set of 3 Antique German Flow Blue & White Ribbon Plates:
A wonderful 1880's Victorian era German set of 3 old pierced pottery flow blue plates by the Waechtersbach Works in Brachttal, near Wächtersbach, Germany. The company history is that it was founded in 1832 by Prince Adolf of Ysenburg and Büdingen of Isenburg-Wächtersbach.
These are 3 beautiful original Continental Waechtersbach vintage flow blue, onion flower transferware ribbon plates that have beautiful basketweave pierced edges. Each measures 8.25 inches in diameter. They are identical (except for 3 different deeply incised number marks on reverse, see photos) and each have a reticulated rim.
Ribbon plates were at their most popular between the 1880's and the Edwardian WW1 era. They have many various and interesting varieties of pierced reticulated edges that were strung with a silk ribbon of the perfect width. The ribbon is pushed through the piercing slots, and hung with a large bow. The 2 beautiful plates exhibit an old flow blue floral pattern with gold gilt or gilding which has been applied by hand. They are beautiful and high quality in manufacture and design, as German pottery is by nature.
The condition is clean and with original early deep and graphic marks, as seen in the photos. There are signs of general glaze age crazing and very tiny flecks commensurate with early firing, see photos. They all 3 display beautifully and have no chips, cracks or restoration. They were found together in a house in Exeter, Devon, England and will be sold together on our site, the price listed is for all three.
Size: 8.25 inches in diameter each (3 total) ——We have a 100% approval policy. For any questions, email Debra at the contact box below. Thank you, ~debra
