1860's Praise Ye the Lord Sunderland Lustre Plaque
#AD106:
A wonderful old antique Sunderland luster ware plaque with a Victorian mourning bible verse printed in transferware on it that reads "Praise Ye the Lord." This is from Psalm 150 in the King James Version of the bible.
"Sunderland Lustreware" was made in the Sunderland Potteries in North East England on the River Wear. There were at least 16 known potteries there and over half made this popular style Victorian pink lustre wear. It was also made in Staffordshire, Newcastle, Liverpool and Swansea, but regardless of where made, it is now called Sunderland This plaque has a black transferware moral and biblical message with hand painted flowers all arond. They also made jugs, pitchers, cups, sugar bowls, platters and plates.
The condition on this piece is excellent. There are 2 original period holes on the upper reverse for hanging it with ribbon or string. This beautiful old piece was found in Dumfries, Scotland.
Size: 8.25 x 9.5 inches, it sits about an 1 inch off the wall when hung ——We have a 100% approval policy. For any questions, email Debra at the contact box below. Thank you, ~debra
