Rare Original 17th Century Welsh Chip Carved Ebonised Pine Miniature Coffer c1650-1700. Standing on four bun feet with geometric chip carving to front sides and top. Original ebonised paint finish. Constructed with iron nails throughout. Rare to find an example carved in pine as these boxes are usually found in oak. The hinges have been replaced, you can see the remains of the iron nails fixing original hinges to the back and the interior (see images) The marks from original iron wire hinges are visible on the top back edge (see images) Similar examples of this type can be seen on page 181 of Victor Chinnery's book" Oak Furniture The British Tradition".
