17th Century Oak Joint Stool
A charming 17th Century oak joint stool of pegged construction, this English piece represents the most common form of seating during the 16th and 17th century.
- Sometimes known as a coffin stool, from a later period when something similar would support one end of a coffin before burial.
- Tenon joints visible in the seat top.
- Square stretcher shape, with slightly splayed legs in the forward and back directions.
- Good size seat.
In the modern home this can be used in a variety of seating situations or even as an occasional table, bringing with it the charm and character of a true antique which is around 400 years old.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use over a period of 400 years. There are signs of old, treated woodworm underneath the seat and at the bottom of the legs, but this is to be expected and is not obtrusive. The stool continues to be structurally sound and stable.
