17th Century Oak Boarded Chest

A powerful & stunning early James 1st English boarded chest of good proportions.
The colour of this chest is almost black with a wonderderful brown mellow hue in places, the front with a rather elegant & understated ed ornamentation form running across the chest. The sturdy slab sided trestle supports have been rebated to allow for a better fixed construction and strengthening rather than the usuall nailed together way of doing things. As of date very early 1600s although there are two similar fine examples in the clive sherwood catalogue page 50 & 219 that are listed as Elizabethan. The colour patination & proportions of this chest is very pleasing to the eye, with lots of charm & character to go with aswell. A very elegant & understated piece of early English oak antique furniture. Dimensions as follows width 39" height 18" width 13" .
