17th Century Carved Oak Wainscot Chair
17th Century Carved Oak Wainscot Chair
Circa 1650-80 and from the Yorkshire Dales area.
The scrolled crest Rail with floral design and earpieces to the side,the back panel carved with a diamond lozenge with fluttering pennant- like terminals with the initials S H carved each side to the top of the panel,the carving is distinctively formed,with a formal yet mobile sense of style.
The down swept arms at a vast angle on dumpy turnings,the joinery is extremely well made and carefully finished
Two plank seat over plain rail with turned front legs,the rear legs of heavy construction united by a box stretcher.
These are all characteristic of chairs from the Dales area.

Good colour and patina ,in good condition .
