Silver Medal, Man sets foot on moon, July 1969
A GOOD, ENGLISH HALLMARKED, BRITANNIA SILVER COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL, "MAN FIRST SETS FOOT ON THE MOON, JULY 1969".
A very good quality and rare, Limited Edition, English Britannia silver hallmarked commemorative medal, produced in order to commemorate the day that man first set foot on the moon, 21 July 1969.
Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that first landed a man on the moon. The accompanying Certificate of Authentication (COA) has details of the three crew members Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins.
This medal was struck in English Britannia silver and hallmarked at the London Assay Office. Britannia silver (95.84%) is a higher grade of silver than sterling silver (92.5%).
The medal is hallmarked on the edge with the maker's mark "G&CoLd", the Lion's Head Erased and Britannia marks for Britannia grade silver and the date letter "O" for 1969/70. Also on the edge of the medal is stamped the individual medal number (328) to match the accompanying certificate.
The medal depicting a man stepping down from the landing craft to set foot on the moon, surrounded by "Man first sets foot on the moon, July 1969". The reverse depicting the moon and the US Eagle with "United States of America".
The medal measures approximately 58mm in diameter and the weight is approximately 79.4g.
