Pair S/Plated Gothic Candlesticks Cabochons Pugin

We are offering for sale this magnificent, large pair of heavily Silver Plated Gothic Church Candlesticks ornamented with cabochons in red glass in the style of A. W. N. Pugin. These came from a convent in Ireland.
Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin 1 March 1812 – 14 September 1852) was an English architect, designer, artist and critic with French and Swiss origins. He is principally remembered for his pioneering role in the Gothic Revival style of architecture. His work culminated in designing the interior of the Palace of Westminster in Westminster, London, and its clock tower, the Elizabeth Tower (formerly St. Stephen's Tower), which houses the bell known as Big Ben. Pugin designed many churches in England, and some in Ireland and Australia. He was the son of Auguste Pugin, and the father of Edward Welby Pugin, Cuthbert Welby Pugin, and Peter Paul Pugin, who continued his architectural and interior design firm as Pugin & Pugin.
Each tall candle sconce leads down to a dished drip pan, with pierced Gothic gallery. The reeded column interspersed with a small knop, leads to a central knop with four ornamental red glass cabochons. It continues down through another small knop to a stepped, cast iron loaded base, set upon three lion's paw feet.
These are a really superb pair of candlesticks - they have been heavily silver plated and the quality and workmanship is excellent. They have been beautifully made. We have rarely seen a similar pair for sale.
Dimensions:
Height: 22 1/2" - 57.1cm
Maximum width of base foot to foot: 8" - 20.2cm
Weight of each candlestick: 8.77 lbs - 3.91 kg
Material: Silver Plate
Condition: Excellent. There is no wear to the plate. There are slight scratches to the inside of the drip pan and rim of the sconce consistent with age and use.
