Pair of Chinese Boxwood Carvings of Shou Lao
Matched pair of early 20th century Chinese carved boxwood (huangyang wood) figures of Shou Lao representing long life and good fortune. The figures though of similar size have been stained a slightly different colour and were most likely by different hands. The figure on the left holds a gnarled staff in one hand while the child by his side holds the 'Golden Peach of Immortality'. The figure on the right shows Shou Lao holding a scroll and gnarled staff with a crane at his feet.
Dimensions:
Left figure - Height 25 x Width 9 x Depth 9 cm. Weight 481 g
Right figure - Height 25 x Width 8 x Depth 7 cm. Weight 466 g
Condition: Both figures are in good antique condition with minor chips and small splits to the wood. The left figure has lost one of its eyes.
