Pair French Spelter Table Lamps After A. Moreau

We are offering this pair of silver toned French Spelter Figurative Table Lamps, after and signed Auguste Moreau. The lamps depict a pair of male and female rural figures. The male is scattering seeds, while the female is carring a bundle of corn in her apron and holding alofit an ear of corn. Presumably, these spelter lamps were cast from one of his signed bronzes. The lamps each bear a circular brass plaque which states 'Fabrication Francaise. Paris. Made in France' bearing a picture of a foundry ladle in the centre.
Auguste Moreau was born on February 22nd, 1834 in Dijon and died on November 11th, 1917 in Malesherbes. He was a French sculptor..
Auguste Moreau belonged to the Moreau family. a dynasty of sculptors from the 19th and early 20th century. He was the son of Jean Baptist Louis Joseph Moreau and the younger brother of the sculptors Hippolyte Moreau and Mathurin Moreau.. His children, Louis Augustr Moreau and François Hippolyte Moreau, would also become sculptors.
Auguste was the only one of his siblings not to have received an official award.. He is buried in the municipal Cemetery of Les Lilas.
Auguste Moreau produced mainly bronze art pieces, often featuring women and children. Several of his works are kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in Troyes, and at the Museum of Fine Arts in Bordeaux
The lamps have been completely rewired with silver fabric covered braided flex, new chrome lampholder and new 3 amp plug. As with all electrical items, it is recommended that they be checked by a qualified electrician before use.
